The municipality of Rheden has two partnerships; one with the town of Cheb,
in the Czech Republic, and one with Burgdorf, Germany. Together these three
communities work on projects of aid for the town of Fojnica, Bosnia.
Partner community: Cheb
Cheb is one of the oldest towns of the Czech Republic and an often visited
holiday destination. The historic centre was reconstructed in the late
1950s and 1960s. The historic town centre is well maintained and has the
official status of monument.
The Cheb Castle is one the most spectacular Roman monuments in Central
Europe. Besides the Castle, there is a museum where you can learn about the
history of the town, as well as the State Galery of modern art.
Sun-admirers enjoy stays at the Skalka-dam or the Jesenica-dam. From 1970
on, every two years Cheb hosts the International Festival FIJO, for
youngster musicians.

Partner community: Burgdorf
Burgdorf is situated 20 km east of Hannover and is surrounded by an
idyllic landscape. Many originally built houses can be found here.
Burgdorf offers an excellent gastronomy. Besides the good kitchen the
atmosphere is worth tasting; tourists enjoy themselves hiking, biking,
playing tennis or golf.
Nice places to visit are the Rathaus (city council), Stadtmuseum,
Schloss (historic town centre), churches, windmill and many more.
In 2004, Burgdorf celebrated its 725th anniversary. More on this and
more tourist info is to be found on their own website: http://www.burgdorf.de/.
Projects in Fojnica, Bosnia
Rheden, Cheb and Burgdorf together have an initiative to support
Fojnica in its rebuilding and development. Fojnica was founded in
1365 and was named after what is called, the Golden River. It has a
rich history; very old books are exposed here in their original
form, and monasteries and mosques can be visited.
For their health, the Fojnica people visit a 'spa', a source of
naturally healing water. Fojnica builds on its future and tries to
leave its past of violence and destruction behind - to build up
something new.

is an English version!
